Unwavering Priorities

A young man proudly calls his mother, practically beaming through the phone. “Mom, you won’t believe it! I just spent the entire day cleaning my apartment. For the first time in months, it’s absolutely spotless. I vacuumed every single corner, I dusted all the surfaces until they gleamed, and I even got down on my hands and knees to scrub the bathroom tiles. You could eat off the floor!”

His mother’s voice on the other end sounds genuinely pleased and surprised. “Oh, that’s wonderful, sweetie! That’s so unlike you. I’m so happy to hear that you’re finally taking a little more pride in your living space.”

He continues, feeling a wave of accomplishment wash over him, “It looks incredible, Mom. I feel so accomplished. I even tackled that disaster zone I call my closet. Everything is organized, color-coded, and folded neatly. You wouldn’t even recognize the place!”

His mother replies, her tone still warm, “It’s absolutely fantastic that you did all that hard work, dear. It sounds like you’ve really turned over a new leaf. So, since it’s so clean and orderly over there now, and you’re clearly making such positive changes… you must have finally found that nice girl I’ve been telling you about, the one who appreciates a clean and organized man?”
