A man from the city was spending a week in a quiet country village. He struck up a conversation with an old farmer. “It’s so peaceful here,” the man said, “But what do you possibly do for a real thrill?”
The farmer chuckled. “Well, you just missed our biggest event of the year: The Annual Hog Weigh-In Contest.”
“The Hog Weigh-In Contest?” the city man asked, looking puzzled.
“That’s right,” said the farmer. “The whole town shows up. Everyone puts five dollars into a prize pool and writes down their guess of the pig’s weight. Closest guess wins the entire prize.”
The city man smiled, amused by the simple tradition. “Sounds charming. So, who was the big winner this year? Anyone from the village?”
The farmer shook his head slowly. “Nope. Nobody from the village won.”
“A lucky tourist, then?” the man pressed.
“Nope,” the farmer said with a twinkle in his eye. “The pig won. He refused to get on the scale. We decided he’d won on a technicality.”
