Old Friends, New Memories

Two lifelong friends, now in their golden years, are sitting on a park bench, enjoying a sunny afternoon. One, a bit hard of hearing, leans in as his friend starts talking.

“Remember that time,” the first friend begins, “when we went camping and that bear stole all our food?”

The second friend cups his ear. “Bear? Did you say ‘pear’?”

“No, no, a BEAR!” the first friend shouts, gesturing wildly. “A big, furry bear! It raided our cooler!”

The second friend nods slowly. “Oh, a chair! Yes, I remember that old camping chair. It was quite wobbly.”

The first friend sighs, then tries again. “Never mind the bear! Remember when we tried to paddle that canoe across the lake and we capsized right in the middle?”

The second friend squints. “Capsized? You mean ‘capsized’ like in a bottle?”

The first friend throws his hands up in exasperation. “No! We FLIPPED OVER! Into the COLD WATER!”

The second friend suddenly grins, a twinkle in his eye. “Oh! You mean that time we went swimming in the lake on a really hot day? That was fantastic! Best swim ever!”

The first friend stares at him for a moment, then smiles too. “You know what? You’re absolutely right. Best swim ever. And let’s remember it that way!”
