A renowned detective was facing one of the toughest cases of his career. The city’s most valuable diamond had been stolen, and there were no clues.
The detective went to the crime scene. He examined every corner, every crack. After hours of investigation, he finally found a small note. The note simply read: “Diamond gone.”
The detective sighed in frustration. “What kind of a clue is this? This thief must be mocking me!”
His assistant said, “Perhaps it’s a message, sir. It could be a code that reveals the thief’s identity.”
The detective shook his head. “No, no. This is too simple. This thief… this thief is trying to tell me something.”
Days turned into weeks. The detective took the note everywhere, consulted every expert. Cryptographers, linguists, even psychologists examined the note, but they couldn’t make any sense of it.
The detective spent sleepless nights, forgot to eat. This note had become an obsession for him. Finally, completely exhausted, he returned to his office. He placed the note back on his desk and stared blankly at it.
Suddenly, his eyes caught a thin line at the bottom of the note. That small, irregular line where the note had been torn…
The detective flipped the note over. On the back of the note, something was written in small, shaky handwriting. He squinted and read:
“P.S. If you’re wondering where the diamond went, come have a cup of coffee with me. I’m very lonely.“
