A blonde woman, suspected of a crime, was being interrogated by a detective. He sat her down in a stark room with a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling.
“We have ways of making you talk,” the detective said, his voice low and serious.
The blonde woman just smiled sweetly and replied, “I know. My ex-boyfriend used all of them.”
The detective leaned forward, a bit confused. “I’m not talking about that. I mean, we have evidence, witnesses…”
She interrupted him, her smile unwavering. “Oh, I have those too! I have a witness who saw me at the mall, and my receipt is evidence that I was buying shoes.”
The detective sighed, rubbing his temples. “That’s not what I… Look, we know you were at the scene of the crime.”
The blonde woman’s eyes widened in excitement. “You do? That’s amazing! I’ve been trying to prove that for ages. My lawyer said I needed an alibi, but I think being at the scene is much more direct, don’t you?”
The detective stared at her, completely baffled. He finally threw his file on the table. “Fine, you’re free to go.”
“Really?” she asked, clapping her hands. “Why?”
The detective looked at her and said, “Because sending you to prison would be a cruel and unusual punishment… for the other inmates.”
