A woman rushed into a police station, looking distraught. “My husband is missing!” she cried to the desk sergeant. “He went out early this morning, and he hasn’t come home!”
The sergeant, trying to be reassuring, asked, “Can you describe him?”
“He’s tall, with dark hair, and he was wearing a blue jacket and jeans,” she replied. “Oh, and he drives a brand-new sports car, a bright red one!”
The sergeant started writing. “And what does he do for a living?”
“He’s a software engineer,” she said, wringing her hands. “He works from home mostly, but he likes to go for drives to clear his head.”
Just then, another officer burst through the door, looking excited. “Sergeant! We just found a man matching that description! He’s in the lake, right by the old oak tree!”
The woman gasped, tears welling up. “Oh, no! Is he… is he okay?”
The sergeant looked at her for a long moment, then slowly put down his pen. “Ma’am,” he said, “is your husband on any social media?”
The woman, confused, nodded. “Yes, he’s always on his phone, constantly posting updates.”
The sergeant sighed. “Right. Well, we found a man, tall, dark hair, blue jacket, jeans… but we also found a bright yellow sports car near the lake. We figured he couldn’t be your husband, because he hasn’t updated his status in five hours.”
