A man was driving with his wife when their car suddenly started sputtering and then completely broke down on the side of a deserted road. After a few frustrating minutes, he realized he had no cell phone reception.
“Great,” he muttered, slamming the steering wheel. “Just perfect! Now what are we going to do?”
His wife, usually quick to offer solutions, remained completely silent, staring straight ahead.
The man tried again. “Well, aren’t you going to say anything? Offer a suggestion? We’re stranded here!”
Still, nothing from his wife. Just a stony, unwavering silence.
He grew more exasperated. “Come on, say something! Anything! You always have something to say!”
Finally, after another long moment of agonizing quiet, his wife slowly turned her head towards him, a calm expression on her face. “I was just waiting,” she said softly, “for you to realize that if I say ‘I told you so,’ we won’t get home any faster.”
