A young man had applied for a job at the zoo. He went in for an interview with the director.
“Alright, Mr. Smith,” said the director. “You want to work at the zoo. Do you have any prior experience with animals?”
The young man eagerly replied, “Absolutely, sir! I grew up on a farm. I milked cows, took care of horses, fed pigs…”
The director nodded. “Very good. What about exotic animals? Have you ever worked with lions, tigers, or bears?”
The young man paused for a moment. “Not really, sir. But I’m very eager to learn!”
The director smiled. “I see. What if you had to enter a lion’s cage, what would you do?”
The young man thought. “First, I’d try to understand the lion’s mood. I’d speak in a calming voice. Maybe offer him some meat…”
The director seemed impressed. “Very good. And what if you fell into a crocodile’s pond, what would you do?”
The young man immediately replied: “Then, sir, I would swim very fast!“
The director chuckled. “Alright, one last question. Let’s say a gorilla escaped from its cage and is running towards you. What would you do?”
The young man thought for a moment, then replied with a serious expression: “Then, sir, I would run in the direction the gorilla is running. But faster than him!“
The director burst out laughing. “You’re hired! But one last thing: Why do you think you need to run so fast?”
The young man shrugged. “Because, sir, I know that everyone working at the zoo needs to run faster than the animals!“
