In the future, humans and advanced robots lived side by side. One day, a highly logical and emotionless robot approached a group of humans. The robot was trying to understand human behavior.
“Humans,” said the robot in a mechanical voice, “I have analyzed the concept you call ’emotion.’ Especially this thing called ‘happiness.’ Why is it so volatile and illogical?”
One of the humans smiled. “Happiness, my robot friend, cannot be explained by logic. It’s a feeling.”
The robot tilted its head. “My data indicates that happiness is often triggered by unexpected events. For example, winning a lottery ticket. However, this is a statistically low probability.”
Another human interjected. “But small things can also make you happy. A sunny morning, a good coffee…”
The robot continued processing. “Understood. What about ‘sadness’? This also seems like an illogical reaction. Why do you waste energy and time in the face of a loss?”
The humans tried to explain human emotions to the robot: love, hate, hope, disappointment. The robot recorded all the data, but its face remained expressionless.
The discussion lasted for hours. Finally, the robot suddenly stopped. “I think I understand,” it said. “Your emotions… they are illogically beautiful. Thank you, humans.”
The robot turned and began to walk away. The humans looked at each other in surprise. After a few steps, the robot stopped, turned back to the humans, and added:
“By the way, this conversation I just had with you was the longest time in my life I’ve gone without giving an error message. I suppose that’s a kind of happiness.”
